Well, it’s the wild west for lawmakers these days.
It’s no longer good enough to just keep non-adults out, now you must make each visitor surrender sensitive ID documents (drivers license, passport, etc) before permitting them onto a site.
And we’re about two minutes from this situation:
law: You MUST retain these sensitive ID records for not less than three years.
law: You must NOT retain these sensitive ID records for more than ten minutes.
artist: But– but– that’s impossible to comply with!
Spock: It’s a paradox, captain — they’ve law-made themselves into a self-contradictory state.
Mother from the movie Sneakers: A society in which every citizen is a criminal, just not yet prosecuted — the very DEFINITION of a dystopia!
lawmaker: (too busy wild-westing — that really oughtta be a verb — to bother with trivial things like mutually-contradictory laws or petty things like citizens and constituents)
Eventually, into this quagmire (a still furiously spawning and seething quagmire), there will arise a working solution. A company that says: here, drop our plugin into your site, and for this fee each month, we’ll track the hundreds of viciously bickering lawmakers, and get them to sue each other out of paradox laws, and let you poor artists do art again, while we handle this whole legal septic tank … thing.
That company, that solution, is not here yet, it’s some years out.
In the meantime …
Some artists, like a hamster on an exercise wheel, have sanded off their own paws trying to keep ahead, complying with lawmakers, on a wheel that never goes anywhere.
(Dan Ackroyd: Yep, What did I tell you? Dystopia!)
Some, like Literotica, have simply mothballed all images (PG as well as R) until the lawmakers all take each other out in a gun-slinger circle-shirk, leaving things to settle back to sane again.
(Fugue: A ‘circle-shirk’ — see, because they’re not doing their jobs while each empties his/her gun into the back of the one in front of them, all the way around to the first one back-shot by the last one.)
After much consideration, I’ve decided to follow the Literotica path. At the risk of mixing metaphors, I’m going to pull my feet out of the piranha-pool until the little monsters are done devouring each other and everything else in the pool.
You may see a couple more stories released for free by me, but nothing with visual depictions (sigh, even PG bikini pix) until lawmakers stop spraying bullets. (Lawyers call these times: good times! with golden opportunities!)
The text of my creations is still copyrighted, but anyone that wants to take any ideas or characters and run further with them, go ahead and have fun doing so, with blessings. After all, strings of words are copyrightable; ideas are not. And some of you may spin the ideas to better tales than I did. I hope to read or play them if you do.
Live well,
Wolfgang Fugue
